Take me to where the buildings no longer control

The dusk falls
under pressure from the night sky,
abandoned
by any symmetry that is left.

A light that hides
underneath the doorway
can spark thoughts of comfort
or a worry.

But an empty glance
directed forth at the night sky
echoes the empty room
filled with a lack of light.

Uncomfortable positions
take place
in a working mind’s conditions
without proper regulations.

The city can be so ugly
amid the fallout of a dark power,
inhibiting every move
we set to play on the chess board.

Wipe the pieces off the table,
and keep all that is left:
the grass growing in the cracks
on the sidewalks outside.

Aging superpowers don’t fare well
against the mind of a nature boy,
the knowledge of peace
and the want to destroy.

All that sits before us
are endless windows and stories,
standing proudly in front of those that starve
and beg at the feet of hunger.

But we are all the same,
as atoms make up life,
and the spark it takes
to douse the city in flames.

Don’t Release

Take the breaths, calculated by the falling sun,
and a need to repair anything broken within.
But nothing breaks when the bond holds strong
versus the outside force of a jealous crowd.

A crowd filled with endless faces of envious disappointment,
the looks of which turn one-time smiles into ugly frowns.
No one is stronger than us.
Nothing can take us down.

Take my hand through the uphill battle,
a sword to clear the pathway,
your heart to keep you moving.
Just don’t release.

Because I’ll never give back
the hand that I hold, while the forehead I kiss
collapses into my chest, as my head covers yours
and we are reminded of the beauty we possess.

Ready.

Sometimes when I need you close,
a lack of better words
leads to the distant part
of you and me.

Heads turn quickly:
a failure to comprehend
a situation so deadly
and out of my hands.

But often I see the trees swaying
in the backdrop portrait,
lighting up the silhouette
of a white dress beauty.

Because I’ll never let go of the image
you painted, bright as the sun,
while laughing in the backseat
of something bigger than us.

Looking Down On Us

Every night I wonder
why the stars shine so bright,
how the oceans never end,
when the rain will return.

Every night I wonder
why the Earth is the perfect shape,
built as endless, limitless
as all of life is.

Every night I wonder
just how it came to be
that our lives crossed paths
with perfect symmetry.

Every night I wonder
how a guy like me
could be this lucky,
to fall into this endless rabbit hole.

Every night I wonder
how life can be so wondrous,
ever-changing like the weather,
full of spirit and color.

Every night I wonder
about why we were brought together:
like the roaring tides and the stars that shine,
it’s just how life’s supposed to be.
