Snow Sand

By Jonathan Gonzalez | January 18, 2015

What’s left of the snow
floats across the ground.
It spins around the cars
like sand in a gust.

The ice is so deadly,
and it’s easy to feel invincible
when you’re coasting through
at an even deadlier speed.

First Autumn

By Jonathan Gonzalez | November 1, 2014
The few leaves that remain

fall easily beneath.
The golden tint they possess
is fading like the sun’s warmth.

The street lamp lights stretch into the lake
as water illuminated poles.
It’s a time of great change on this
autumn night on the front range.

For it is the first moment
I have stopped to witness
all the beauty that surrounds me.
There’s something about being in this state.

A state of starting new.
A state of calm, not panic.
Close to my heart forever on.
And with you by my side, I am blessed.

Frisco

The roadway lines flicker slower with every mile,
merging to create a single streak down the triangle.
Time to look away.

I turn to spot the red-draped rocks sparkling in the light.
And the river racing along the rocks that line our lanes.
It’s quite the portrait.

Images focused on the here and now,
built millions of years back.
Men simply cannot recreate such a view.
Can I stay?

The triangle will end eventually
to make room for another kind of life,
but I will embrace this one.
The hills will stay gold with our potential.

Get there

By Jonathan Gonzalez | July 31, 2013

Often when I sleep
my mind resembles my eyes.
But my days are laced
with dreams I see.

Audible.
Imagined
but audible,
still.

But woven with potential
and promising wants.
Complete possibilities,
Complete desires.

If you were just a grain of sand, I’d still find you

By Jonathan Gonzalez | July 18, 2013

This is merely our feet in the water
of a river that will move faster
than we can grasp.

It is a California roll
at an empty stop sign intersection,
and our road ahead forms a deep triangle.

I see them every day,
and I know you do too,
but I also see you.

Taking over, on top.
They’re not ready
for all of the power you possess.

V.A.A.

By Jonathan Gonzalez | February 22, 2013

Every day I wait
perfectly impatiently
for the welcoming home
we will build.

I wonder about their faces,
and what will drive them,
while they play peacefully
in the grass.

I will look at you
and say how happy I am
that we accomplished
all we said we would.

I know this because
a smile catches my lips
by merely the thought
of this dream.

Almost

By Jonathan Gonzalez | January 22, 2013

The canvas patiently waits
for us to add the colors
that will define it.

The days slowly align
like planets in the sky
for us to come together.

The Moon shines right
through the sunlight
to serve as a reminder.

We shine bright like
the satellite amid
a world of collapsing walls.

At beck and call
to life, and all
it expects of me.
Loving every piece.

They seem to fall
in place, like toy soldiers
by the dreams
of a five-year-old.

Somehow, I know
that this is what I wanted
all along.
I am at peace.

Born to do something
doesn’t appear
until your full potential
is released.

Foggy

By Jonathan Gonzalez | December 18, 2012

What holds outside of my rainy window,
dark from the night,
cloudy from the water,
bored from the time.

Not used to having my decisions
placed in other people’s hands,
especially when their intentions
are as foggy as the mountain top.

Bring on the Fog

By Jonathan Gonzalez | August 26, 2012

I can sense the sun collapsing
behind the endless silhouette
of a mountain due for its autumn dew.

Months of hot air prepares for winter skies
Acid pours out of skin,
gets absorbed in the mind.

Bigger forces are at work
to cool the planet,
rid heat’s cancer from its people.
