Checkered

By Jonathan Gonzalez | June 16, 2012

I believe in lives without finish lines,
a push toward the never-ending.
Life is only for the courageous,
so find yours and go.

Take me to where the buildings no longer control

By Jonathan Gonzalez | May 25, 2012

The dusk falls
under pressure from the night sky,
abandoned
by any symmetry that is left.

A light that hides
underneath the doorway
can spark thoughts of comfort
or a worry.

But an empty glance
directed forth at the night sky
echoes the empty room
filled with a lack of light.

Uncomfortable positions
take place
in a working mind’s conditions
without proper regulations.

The city can be so ugly
amid the fallout of a dark power,
inhibiting every move
we set to play on the chess board.

Wipe the pieces off the table,
and keep all that is left:
the grass growing in the cracks
on the sidewalks outside.

Aging superpowers don’t fare well
against the mind of a nature boy,
the knowledge of peace
and the want to destroy.

All that sits before us
are endless windows and stories,
standing proudly in front of those that starve
and beg at the feet of hunger.

But we are all the same,
as atoms make up life,
and the spark it takes
to douse the city in flames.

Looking Down On Us

By Jonathan Gonzalez | May 12, 2012

Every night I wonder
why the stars shine so bright,
how the oceans never end,
when the rain will return.

Every night I wonder
why the Earth is the perfect shape,
built as endless, limitless
as all of life is.

Every night I wonder
just how it came to be
that our lives crossed paths
with perfect symmetry.

Every night I wonder
how a guy like me
could be this lucky,
to fall into this endless rabbit hole.

Every night I wonder
how life can be so wondrous,
ever-changing like the weather,
full of spirit and color.

Every night I wonder
about why we were brought together:
like the roaring tides and the stars that shine,
it’s just how life’s supposed to be.

We’re the lucky ones

By Jonathan Gonzalez | April 29, 2012

Driving down the interstate,
windows rolled as far as windows roll,
flowing air brings in the good vibes
from the world and into our hearts.

As our lungs fill up
with words of our emotion,
we exhale beauty onto one another,
describing the most beautiful bond.

We’re the lucky ones
buried deep in our storybook world,
as others fail to see as we do,
that life is only to be prized.

Because anything less than
this love we have been given
would be robbery of the potential
we have for the most beautiful lives.

Luna

By Jonathan Gonzalez | April 6, 2012

The moon is glorious,
almost full tonight.
It brings the winds that float
among the palm tree leaves.

The most peaceful sound
in the most peaceful light.
A surreal blend of stars
and clear purple skies.

The temperature is cool
atop this second story balcony,
but I’ve lucked out
with your warm embrace tonight.

A month has passed
but our love was stated from the start.
I’m looking forward to many more
celestial nights with you.

It’s True

By Jonathan Gonzalez | March 21, 2012

I drive reminiscent
of the moment that’s just happened.
Remind yourself your lucky,
that this really is all happening.

Soak it in tonight,
like you do the morning stars.
The luckiest of all the men
to know you’ve found your one.

Density

By Jonathan Gonzalez | March 18, 2012

Listen slightly
to the rain drops falling
onto the rooftop
under cold purple skies.

Darkness is upon us,
and the train roars,
as the city sirens
flow between the buildings.

You can feel the peace
one drop at a time,
while the moon hides
behind the clouds tonight.

And I look at you and wonder
how you’ve been brought to me.
Fate now believed by a man
who never believed in destiny.

Slumber

By Jonathan Gonzalez | March 17, 2012

I fall into my mattress
and slide under the blankets
to my favorite sound
of rain collapsing.

Just hours after leaving,
I miss you some more.
Your silent smiles.
That laugh I adore.

And somewhere in this valley,
my love is resting,
while I’m peacefully awaiting
her return.

Back in my presence,
back under the rain.
Let’s fall into slumber,
back in my bed.

Just gotta let me.

By Jonathan Gonzalez | March 9, 2012

Let’s take a night together,
just the stars and the lights,
hidden in our very own world,
on a skyline drive.

Above the city towers,
high in the heavens,
let’s make the world realize
what they’ve been missing.

An unspoken link.
Eyes match thoughts.
A charming condition.
Words match hearts.

Church bells ringing,
heads turn.
A confident smirk
at all I know I have.

If I lost it all

By Jonathan Gonzalez | March 9, 2012

I’d still have the Earth,
a wondrous location,
floating in the Milky Way.

Marvel in its vastness.
Marvel in its persona.
Marvel in its people.
Marvel in its beauty.

It can only be luck
to wake up in the morning
and feel this grateful.
