11001

By Jonathan Gonzalez | February 10, 2012

Thoughts are like fluid
falling a drop at a time.
Like a static IV,
they’re consuming my mind.

And I insert them in code
into this handheld device.
One’s and zero’s consume
my cryptic life.

Misread you

By Jonathan Gonzalez | February 9, 2012

I was merely telling you,
emptying,
undoubtedly expressing
a problem of mine.

But you only bashed me,
and judged me,
and told me your side.

I was merely looking
for a friend to listen,
someone to confide in,
not a reinforcer of the mistake
I know I’ve made.

Lexica

By Jonathan Gonzalez | February 9, 2012

Lit another fire
on my way home
from bridge burning.

I’ll grow out of it,
you’ll see.

Judged straight off
the flat end of the Earth.
Quite a fall.

I’ll be happy one day,
you’ll see.

The question is…

By Jonathan Gonzalez | February 9, 2012

How do you stop yourself
from counting lines on the lips.
Part 2 for the books.
First words inked.

I’ve always only remembered
the least memorable details.
And you have no idea why
I choose to tread water, poor thing.

Answerless for fear of falling over
the railing, into the water, never-ending.
And it’s likely
I’ll never write because of it.

Answer this: when will I grow
a few inches north of cowardice
and challenge the
societal damage?

Preconceived and too determined,
I can be just the worst person.
Standards set so low and shallow,
but we always seem to drown.

Pound your gavel
into my face,
and judge, and judge,
and judge away.

Bays

By Jonathan Gonzalez | February 7, 2012

Half asleep
or half awake,
I’m struggling to tell.

Yawns occur
at rates unknown,
contagious like a spell.

Drawings shape
on your front page,
it’s admiring to watch.

Waiting for
the day that comes
we just sit down to talk.

Strato

By Jonathan Gonzalez | February 5, 2012

Empty fields left open
to run through
match the
parallelled skies.

At the end,
a body to splash to.
Dive in
and capsize.

And jump
to land on top
of the motioning
cloud.

Fall
with the rain
and spread thin
across the ground.

I’m in between us

By Jonathan Gonzalez | February 5, 2012

I miss the way
you’d make me try
just as much
as I miss your smile.

And all the words
you love to speak
and fill up pages
of my belief
in something real,
something warm.

Nothing to replace
the look you gave
when running up
a child’s dream.

Casted

By Jonathan Gonzalez | February 4, 2012

We need help
in the most dire of places
as the most familiar faces
disappear in plain sight.

Take me to where
the fog reigns supreme
and the forest silhouettes
are endless.

To a place where breaths
are admired with the likes of
love and peace, found deep beneath
the well I wish to fall into.

See You Friday

By Jonathan Gonzalez | January 31, 2012

A lack of loyalty
is all that’s found
on top of burning rubble.

Equalizations
are never found
for reasons
never found.

Pain is likely
to never be
reciprocated.

Pour

By Jonathan Gonzalez | January 29, 2012

Take the lamp,
in the middle of the night,
over to where
you’ll need the light.

Make sure no one can see
you cause the destruction
that will surely occur
the second the steel begins to twist.

Piercing cries from those who walk above
the frightening waters below
as the gasoline begins to
befriend the oxygen.

Leave the scene of perhaps
the greatest downfall
of solid steel ever seen,
as you burn this bridge.
